History of Bacon

Bacon, then a part of the missionary settlement of Casiguran, got it's name from "bacong" plants which Rev. Fr. Felix Huertas, the parish priest administer of Casiguran found growing abundantly near and along the sea shores when he visited the place in 1609.

The town has seen various events: the frequent Moro raids in 1754, when 900 Maranaos invaded Bacon, devastated earthquake in 1954 and the appearance of some 20 Japanese warships on December 17,1941.

The living witnesses of the Moro raids can be seen in the crumbling stone fortress one of which has 2 meters thick wall and with a height of 6 meters, has towers where Spanish gunners could easily spot the enemy.. This was built during the term of Teodoro Saen, Gobernadorcillo (1776-1781)
